Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about building with us? Below, you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most frequently. Our mission is to provide a quality home building experience for discerning Nashvillians so they can relax in their new home knowing the job was done right the first time.

Everything You Need to Know

We know building or remodeling a home comes with a lot of questions. Our FAQ section is here to provide clear answers so you can feel confident and informed every step of the way.

We use the budget as much as we use the plans to construct a project. We produce a monthly cost expenditures report which shows all costs at the time of the report. The most important part to working within a budget is to finalize your specifications and selections prior to start of work. This not only saves time and keeps the project moving ahead, but it allows us to build the the requirements of your selections instead of having to make changes later.

Before construction of your project begins, we encourage you to remove personal belongings, including furniture, rugs, photos and artwork from the construction area. While we maintain a clean construction project, there will be times when there is dust and debris.

The answer will depend on a few different items. Does noise bother you? Is the renovation an integral part of your house. Is your house a place that you use to get away from every day life? Do you like peaceful mornings. IF the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you might consider living elsewhere.

If your project is a total renovation, I would encourage you to remove your belongings. However, if there are areas of your house that won’t be affected by the project, you might be able to store them on site.

For partial renovations and additions, prior to start of work, we install dust prevention barriers to prevent dust and debris from entering your house and we maintain these barriers throughout the project to completion.

From the time that we receive plans, the estimating process usually takes four to six weeks, depending on the complexity of the project.  Once the cost is agreed upon and the contract is signed, we will apply for the building permit within the following seven days. Once we have received the permit, construction will begin within two weeks.

Typically, yes, you can provide your own materials, depending on the material and it’s availability. This can be decided during the initial meeting once you tell us about the materials that you would like to provide.

The majority of members of our team of subcontractors have been working with us for many years. We know how each other works and what procedures that we each need. This helps our projects go together quickly and with a high degree of quality. If you have a subcontractor that you would like to include in the project, we would want to meet with them to learn more about their company and how they perform their work before deciding whether to work with them. This insures a high quality of your completed project.

Jobsites can be dangerous if someone is not educated on construction processes. If a client wants to perform demolition, we ask that it be completed prior to our start of construction.

With remodels, additions and renovations, there are always many unknowns. We encourage each client to have a contingency amount that is not part of the budget that they plan to spend. We suggest 10% of the construction budget. If issues come up that aren’t expected, you will have those funds to cover the costs. If there are no surprises, you will have funds to celebrate your completed project.

Our company does not do design work, but we do work with some of the best architects and interior designers in Middle Tennessee. This means that we can pair you with the best people for your particular project.
